Free Plugin Friday! Audio Assault: Transient!

Transient, by Audio Asault, is a broad band transient designer that allows you to increase or decrease the attack and sustain properties of your audio. The built in clipper allows you to control the peak of your transients while allowing you to push for more attack by using the 2X control.

When we think of transient designers, we typically think of using them on percissive sources. However, I encourage you to explore other options. Put this on a guitar DI before an amp sim and see how it impacts the tone of the instrument. Put this on a synth, or a vocal, and see how it responds. Use it to bring up the percussive strums of an acoustic guitar in the mix without turning up the guitar track and throwing off the balance. One of my favorite uses for broadband transient designers is on a guitar DI before a distorted amp. You can use the sustain control to make the DI react as though the guitar had a hotter pickup.

Transient is available in 32 and 64 bit for Mac & PC, and comes in VST, AU, RTAS, and AAX formats. Download for free at
