B.O.D. by TSE Audio is a plugin emulation of the famous Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI box. The hardware unit is beloved by bassists and studio engineers around the world for its no nonsense approach and versatility.

The hardware unit is in pedal form, allowing it to act merely as an active DI box. The free plugin version uses a footswitch button in the interface to control a built in bypass feature. Unlike the hardware, you have controls for overall input signal and for “quality” which is likely an oversampling switch.

The presence control can be used to add high end to your bass in the range that will allow it to cut through the mix on small speakers. On the original unit, this was more than just an EQ as it added harmonic content to the upper ranges. Since this is an emulation with very little written in the manual, I’m left to assume that this same characteristic is present in this unit. As you’ll hear near the end of this demonstration, when the distortion is more present there appears to be a bit more distortion in the top end when boosting the Presence control.
