Mix Minute: Parallel Drum Distortion

Hello this is Brandon with another mix minute, and today we’re going to use parallel distortion to increase the size of our drums.

Distortion is useful for compressing while adding character. This is effective in parallel, as it maintains the sonic integrity of the original signal.

Send the kick, snare, and toms to God Mode in parallel. Target the lows to lengthen and solidify the sustain, and carve the saturation away from the upper mids to avoid losing attack.

This technique demonstrated on Juliet’s Rescue’s “Heartbeats”. Get a copy of these multitracks free from the cambridge educational multitrack archive. https://cambridge-mt.com/ms/mtk/#JulietsRescue
